One Crazy Adventure

VIDEO #364
Song - "You're So Cool" by Hans Zimmer (Thanks Markley for the music tip!)
One last day trek to share with you fine people before this old man retires. This adventure brings us to an island on the Columbia River near my house and, for some time now, I've had thoughts of exploring. I woke up today and thought today was the day. A moderate paddle across followed by a pleasant stroll through a dryish marshland... then the fun comes. Muddy dead ends, needle sharp blackberry forests, rain and unseen, but imagined, oversized Beasts lurking in the brush... just a couple of the obstacles I can remember. But in life we're faced with obstacles, and if we do not face these obstacles and overcome them, we will never see what's waiting on the other side, whether it's good or bad. In this case, the thorns cleared, the rain turned to partially blue skies, Beasts turned into cute little deer and muddy dead ends became sandy beaches. So, with that I give you the second to last video from a year of obstacles overcome to enjoy the end of this fine day with you, whoever you might be. Thank you for watching!

Noise

VIDEO #283
Portland Oregon Sounds
The other day, driving along the freeway, I noticed a path parallel to the road. No one on it, no idea how to access it or where it leads to. I pulled up Google Maps, found it to be a "multi-use path." This thing stretches all across the city, connecting to other freeways and bike paths, you name it. Best of all, access is a stone's throw away. On the negative side, it's loud as hell!

Travel By Foot

VIDEO #219
Song - "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica (performed by Rockabye Baby)
Here is the prequel to the sunset video (#217) from the other day. Oregon is not an ugly place to be, I'll just throw that out there. It's amazing that, in one day, you are able to step foot on an 11,000 ft. snow-capped mountain, stop off at a couple roadside waterfalls, dip in a natural hot spring, catch a trout or maybe a steelhead at your favorite river, drop on over to a vineyard for a little wine tasting and end up at the Pacific Ocean to make sure the sun is still setting to the west. A full schedule, sure, but possible.

Expedition #1: Waterfall

VIDEO #193
Song - "Woods" by Bon Iver
The Columbia River Gorge is home to many spectacular waterfalls and a rainy day usually means less people heading out to them. Sure, you'll get a bit wet, but that's where the fun happens. Plus.... it's a natural and free way to get a quick shower! No wonder my cell phone doesn't work anymore...

A Day on the Columbia

VIDEO #183
Song - "Hip Hop No Pares" by Mexican Institute of Sound
Here it is! The video that peaks the hill and brings it on home to the 365 videos. It's smooth sailing from here on out!

Part two of the epic paddle in the Columbia River Gorge was by far, the best day of Fall. This might have to happen again before the weather turns gray. Good times, though, good times!

House Boat Happy Hour

VIDEO #107
Song - "Volcano" by Jimmy Buffett
Yesterday we ventured out to the river to enjoy a little happy hour at "The Deck" located off Marine Drive in the midst of all the house boats. Really cool location and not a bad happy hour menu and great for you bird lovers. Somehow these birds have learned to beg and pretend they have a handicap. It's more scary than cute. FYI, they prefer shrimp.

Floating the Clackamas

VIDEO #099
Song - "Dueling Banjos" from Deliverance
A great retreat from this hot, hot heat is hitting the rivers and floating with some friends. Great times to be had on the Clackamas River, don't forget your sun essentials, drink of choice and favorite floatie. The turtle was no surprise, a big hit.

Troubled Waters

VIDEO #074
Song - "Troubled Waters" by Cat Power
Opal Creek in Oregon is known for its special powers of flowing slowly in reverse and spitting people out of it. What's stranger is the water from the river is edible.

Sandy Memories

VIDEO #054
Song - "Winds of Change" by The Scorpions
An old classic video from the vault! This really turned out to be a happy accident with the hot sexy footage and the super power ballad from the 90's. I'm sure the Scorpions are trying to figure out how to get ahold of me so they can use this to replace their music video.... I'm sure of it!

Mastering the Art of Cliff Jumping

VIDEO #023
Song - "Let the Poison Spill" by The Faint
Outside of Bozeman, Montana, a hidden tribe of people called the Jumpanzees, have mastered the art of cliff jumping. On a casual float one summer with my brother, the tribe gifted me the talent on one condition... that I would mention them in my "Video of the Day" blog. Well here you go, thanks for the lesson Jumpanzees. Great camera work Matt.

Walk Hard

VIDEO #002
Song - "Footsteps" by JJ Grey and Mofro
Collection of various POV shots, ok... lets see, where was I? First clip crossing the log is around Bagby Hot Springs, Oregon. The second log cross is in Forest Park, Portland. The rocks and sand with my favorite old sandals (which were huge) took place by Lake Superior, Minnesota. Snowshoes took place around Mt. Hood and snowboarding was on Hood. Might get some of you dizzy!
